Misato

A curious explorer in many fields; food, craft, travel and nature. Raised in a family-run sheep farm in Japan, works with fashion and languages, enjoys making all sorts of things, and plays music with The Alpacas.

How did you find out about Get Loose?

I live locally and spend a lot of time walking around the farm and the neighbourhood, and one day stumbled upon then young Get Loose. I was so happy to find it, as I was almost considering starting a similar shop myself just because I wanted one near me.

What is your role and what does it involve?

I serve customers on the till, while trying to help with anything else where I can, sometimes utilising my rusty photoshop skills for artwork projects.

Why do you love Get Loose?

I believe every penny we spend is a vote, and for me these are the only votes I can cast here as a foreigner. I love Get Loose because it represents my values; it lets me vote on reducing plastic waste, ethical and sustainable production, local small businesses and a strong sense of community.

Why do you enjoy volunteering?

You get to learn more about each product, producer and supplier. Talking to customers and other volunteers, or just observing what they buy or what we stock, gives me a lot of inspiration.

What is your favourite product and why?

Sunflower mince! It's magically light yet juicy when cooked, very versatile, and has a long shelf-life. Arty Vegan's tofu is as good as what I'd get from local producers in Japan, and is my home away from home.

If you could promote Get Loose on Tube advert what would you say?

I'm a visual person, so I'd go with two contrasting images comparing the amount of waste you'd make in a week while shopping with Get Loose (none) vs conventional supermarkets (loads).
