Producer Spotlight — Earth Conscious Deodorant
We stock a number of Earth Conscious deodorant tins & deo sticks made of cardboard. They are very popular and last for ages.
Where did it all start?
The creator of Earth Conscious began thinking more about the environmental impact of products after having children. They experimented with making deodorants and baby balms from high quality natural ingredients. These were a big hit and now they make a range of products from their small factory on the Isle of Wight.
All their staff are paid the Living Wage.
What’s in them?
Certified organic ingredients: coconut oil, shea butter, arrowroot powder, essential oils
Waxes: jojoba wax & sunflower Wax
Vitamin E
Sodium bicarbonate
Recyclable packaging
What’s not in them?
Animal products or animal testing
Plastic
Aluminium (used in antiperspirants to block sweat glands, generally considered to be a bad idea!)
Parabens (used as preservatives in many cosmetic products, they are controversial and many people feel they may be detrimental to our health long term)
Carcinogens
Organic certification
Like many of our toiletries these items are natural, but the whole product is not certified organic. However many of the ingredients are certified, where it is possible to get them, and these are listed on the labels. They also use FairTrade shea butter and coconut oil.
Packaging
Once finished the tins are a great size to reuse as storage for small things. Maybe bring in to the shop to buy small amounts of spices! Or use it to take earrings on holiday.
Or, if you don’t need it, then it can be placed in your household recycling.
Usage and storage
Scoop out a small amount and rub on to your arm pits. As a natural product the consistency will vary depending on the ambient temperature. It will be firmer in winter and runnier in summer. Store out of direct sunlight.
Donating to Marine Conservation Society
For every product sold 10p is donated to the charity.
Earth Conscious also double the donations every July in support of the Marine Conservation Society Plastic Challenge. This is something they have done for a number of years.
