Producer Spotlight — Leaves of the World Organic Teas
Update January 2022: Leaves of the World founders are taking a break from the business, so as their stock runs down we won't be able to get some lines. Please stock up on your favourites while we have them.
Leaves of the World are an eco-forward loose leaf tea company. Inspired by their travels around the globe, founders Sam and Jason (a.k.a The TeaNomads) set out to start the UK’s largest certified organic and vegan friendly loose leaf tea collection, with an offering of over 70 different blends.
Their tagline is “conscious tea with a human touch” and the ethics of this company is really at the forefront of everything they do — it’s what they call their TEAthos! All of their teas are hand-packed and ingredients are always ethically and organically sourced. In 2017 they won a Green Award for their commitment to being a sustainable and ethical company and continually make steps to work with like-minded organisations to help reduce the footprint on the globe and provide sustainable, plastic free tea options.
How is the Tea Conscious?
Their tea is 100% organic as a matter of principle. If the soils used in growing the products are damaged because of the harsh chemicals and pesticides, then growth in the long term is not only unethical, but unsustainable. That's why all of the teas are certified organic, and 100% vegan.
All teas are certified as organic by EU standards, meaning that all teas and ingredients are sourced from organic farms and plantations that support the growth and natural habitat of their surroundings and our planet.
Eco Friendly
The cultivation of organic tea is better for the planet’s natural ecosystems and the environment. Organic farms support up to 50% more wildlife, so in drinking Conscious Tea, you are doing your bit for the environment, natural wildlife, as well as for yourself.
The tea arrives in bags which we return to Leaves of the World for reuse.
The Aim
Their long term aim is to bring the world organic range of teas, and to help grow the supply and farming of organic plantations.
It is their hope to visit plantations across the world and help those plantations that cannot either financially afford to become certified, or do not have the means to do so, and help them make this possible. Like Get Loose they want organic to become accessible for everyone.
Community Work
Leaves of the World pride themselves on being part of what they like to call CommuniTEA. This includes everyone they work with; stockists, staff, social media gurus, and the postman who delivers the teas. CommuniTEa is all about social engagement, with customers, the local communities where they live and work, as well as external bodies such as charities and community events.
They aim to support as many local communities as possible. Whether it’s a charity event, or a local church fundraiser, a village hall craft fair, or event for local people.
